Ashley Gan
Associate, Corporate Income Tax
Tax Policy Directorate

“I graduated from Singapore Management University with a degree in Bachelor of Accountancy and a second major in Finance. Instead of taking the conventional route by heading to one of the Big Four or braving the volatility in the financial sector, I chose to enter the Tax Policy Directorate in MOF. My decision in joining the Ministry stems from my positive experience as an intern in G&I in 2008. I greatly enjoyed my stint at MOF as I found the environment dynamic and I had the benefit of interacting with several colleagues who are warm and willing to share. My experience in MOF thus far reaffirmed my decision; I am glad to be working for an employer that constantly challenges, empowers and develops me to my full potential.”

Liyana Bte Muhammad Fauzi
Associate (Integrated Services)
Managing For Excellence Directorate

“I was awed when I learned that I would be attached to MOF for my internship. Being nervous and apprehensive are only some of the negative emotions that churned in my stomach when I first stepped into The Treasury.

However, after a few days into my internship, I realised that my doubts and fears were unfounded. MOF is a pleasant place to work in.  The environment is relaxed and friendly where officers are able to approach their superiors freely to consult and seek advice. Officers are also entrusted and given the autonomy to work independently, but are still able to work as a cohesive team.

I was also impressed by my mentors who displayed much enthusiasm and patience in showing me the ropes. I was given the opportunity to conduct my own research and to present my work it during a routine meeting session; a task that seemed daunting for an undergraduate back then.

These are some of the few reasons why I chose to return to MOF as a full-time officer.

In my current position as an Associate under the Managing for Excellence Directorate (MFE), I conduct research on initiatives that bring about an integrated government. Developing and executing such initiatives are also part of my job scope. In MFE, much of the work is done in teams, thus, one will definitely never be left alone to battle issues and stumbling blocks. Teamwork within the directorate as well as between agencies is key. As an organisation that deals with Singapore’s finances, MOF represents the importance of excellent work outcomes through careful planning and consideration and I am proud and privileged to be part of its workforce.”
